Buying guide
This is the large end of the catalog, spanning apartment fridges, big beverage coolers, kegerators, and freezers. Match the type to the job, then confirm the footprint.
01
Five-plus cubic feet covers very different machines: an apartment refrigerator, a big glass-door beverage cooler, a kegerator, or a chest/upright freezer. Start from what you are storing, then pick the type.
02
A 5-plus cubic-foot two-door refrigerator with a real freezer can serve as a main fridge for one or two people. Look for adjustable shelving and a crisper if it is doing daily duty.
03
Chest and upright freezers in this range give substantial bulk storage. Chest units hold more per cubic foot and retain cold longer; uprights are easier to organize and reach.
04
These are large appliances. Measure the space including door swing and venting clearance, and confirm the placement — garage units in particular should be rated for the ambient temperature.
Questions
This size spans apartment-style refrigerators, large glass-door beverage coolers, kegerators, and chest or upright freezers. They are chosen when you need primary-fridge duty or serious beverage or frozen storage capacity.
For one or two people, a 5-plus cubic-foot two-door refrigerator with a real freezer can work as the main fridge. For a family it will still be smaller than a standard full-size unit.
Only if it is rated for it. Large freezers and fridges destined for an unheated garage need a wide ambient-temperature rating so they keep cycling through winter cold and summer heat.
